Boca Raton CERT Radio Announcements
March 29, 2011
Tonight's CERT Net Control for Plan A was John Melcher (10 Echo), and for Plan B was also (Zone 10, N8JUC). After calling for all radio operators to check into the directed Net, announcements were called for:
New announcements and a few reminders:

Nick will be sending the new names so the new members will know which Zone they are in. Please have anyone interested in the second CERT sessions (planned for later this year) contact Catherine VanDen Broeck at 393-7770.
Rebecca Creighton (RCreighton@brrh.com) has asked for assistance by our CERT team on Friday for a Regional Disaster exercise at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. If you are interested in attending please let me know ASAP. They are looking for 10 CERT members. This is a great way to help hone your skills and meet people. It is a great way to have CERT introduced to other agencies. If you or any of your team is interested please contact me by replying to this email. Thank you.
Friday: April 1st
Time: 10am - noon
Location: Boca Raton Regional Hospital Parking Lot
Equipment: This is a disaster exercise – all CERT gear is in order. Eye protection, mask, and latex gloves are a must.
Uniform: CERT Shirt, long pants (no jeans) closed toed shoe, Vest etc.
Activation Process: TBA – I will let you know.
2. CERT team activation as first responders to help us as the hospital during this year’s regional exercise. The exercise will begin around 10 AM on the 1st and we should be done by noon. It is a Cities Readiness Exercise of a terrorist biological and chemical attack. RSVP to Frank (Command One) at fcorreggio@ci.boca-raton.fl.us ASAP!
The hospital will be overwhelmed with patients who are seeking treatment for a nasty biological issue and/or a chemical issue. I am planning on about 200 paper triage patients and am hoping to get at least 10 live victims.
Based on initial triage, using a START methodology, the patients will be separated into chemical or biological. The chemical patients will require decontamination through our tent. The biological will be separated into red, yellow, green and black to determine treatment priority.
I also think the CERT would be a huge help in backing up Security by helping man the perimeter…if they want.
They will need to remember to protect themselves from our biological problem…this is an airborne droplet. The chemical incident will be from the Cruzan so the chance of gross cross contamination will be low…although gloves will be a good idea.
3. The Fire Department Expo was held by new stadium at FAU last Saturday. Thank you to Burt Goodman and all of our dedicated CERT members for their turn out at this lovely event!
4. Command One is working on a monthly (Monday or Tuesday) CERT meeting schedule for CERT business and hands on training all in one visit!
5. John Melcher has gotten us up to date with the changed reporting system from the National Hurricane Center. Click on http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pdf/updates2011.pdf.
6. ARRL HAM Simulated Hurricane Drill. You may stay at home and listen for the Section Emergency Test (SET) net control station, 146.67,145. 29 in EOA6 (Boca), 146.82, EOA5 (Delray) frequencies, then find the frequency that works best for you. This will be held on April 2 at 09.00 hrs. through 10.30 hrs.
7. From Ron Diego: On Sunday, April 17, HAM Radio operators are invited to attend the triathlon at FAU to help with safety. It begins at 6:30 AM and lasts until 10:30 AM. Please contact Ron with your RSVP at Ron.Diego@EgretTechnologies.com. Your help is always appreciated!

Boca Raton CERT Team Leader Meeting February 23, 2011
CERT Team Leader Meeting
February 23, 2011
Attendees included: Frank Correggio, Dana Galloway, Susan Sosin, Charna Lazar, Diana Helmer, Ross Evans, Jim Imbimbo, Ron Diego, John Melcher, Cheryl Freeman, Nicola Zordan, James McDavitt, Elan Geffen, Andy Zerbock, Bill Leitner, Ed Sol, and Harriet Sol.
At a few minutes after 7 PM, the meeting was called to order by Command One, Frank Correggio:
1. Critique on last Semi-Annual Meeting: Perhaps too long, and speakers, though very informative need to keep it shorter and to the point as far as how their topics relate to CERT. It was agreed that the topics should be shorted and that teams could be sitting together to help cohesiveness. Ideas for speakers were strongly suggested from among the attendantship.
2. Please work with your Team Members to update your Disaster Plan. Print out a copy from your copy on the net and send it out either on line or by mail. Have them understand that after an emergency, no matter what the communications or lack of them, meet at you Primary Meeting Place. Bring the materials that you think you’ll need, especially water and protein bars. We should contact our membership often!
3. New CERT Classes are going well, with approximately 20 participants. Remember you are always welcome to join in a class to help, to have a refresher, or both. Just be sure you left Frank know in advance fcorreggi@ci.boca-raton.fl.us. And remember the next session is planned for late summer/Fall, so have prospective members contact Susan Vanden Broeck at 393=7770 to register.
4. CERT demo at the Health and Safety Expo at FAU will be held on Saturday, March26 from 10 to 3 PM. We have a great need for volunteers to man the CERT table and possibly give CERT demonstrations of some of the activities CERT does. Please send Frank an e-mail with the hours you can devote to our great cause and if you’d like to take part in a scenario or two. Fun!!!
5. A new idea for CERT classes is to have a monthly cert meeting/class: CERT Night. Easy to remember, it’s always on our calendars, and we I is open to all of the membership. It will help us on so many levels, and have a short class as well as short “what’s new” meeting, and we get to see each other more often! We have not yet decided if it will be the first Monday or the last Friday or which date, but it will be a consistent day each month.
6. A Pet CPR class is in the planning by one of our own CERT members. More to come…it may be at one of our monthly meetings! At least 15 people will be needed to fill the class.
7. Boca Strike Team and Boca SOGs. Fashioned after sister city models, Frank has be working very hard to make these too tools available to us in Boca. Too make sure that everything is just right takes a considerable amount of time, but they are in the works daily, and for many months. Remember, good things come to those who wait!
8. We will have our next CERT Graduation on March 16, so please try to be there even for a few minutes to support the new members.
9. June 23 through June 26 is the Explorers’ Convention at Lynn University. CERT members may be needed to help on the 24 and 25, more information to follow.
10. We need to settle on a Semi-Annual Meeting Date. Suggestions were made that we watch for school schedules and vacation dates and plan from that.
11. John Melcher was asked about the radio situation, and has asked for more members to help with Net Control, and it will be published in the web-site. Shirley Ritchie, so far is the only person who has stepped up to take one Tuesday every month on Plan B, and would gladly take Plan A also, but all the radios are out. For those of you with radios, there are people who are willing to run the Net Control, so please consider passing your unused radio to one of these kind people.
12. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:00 PM.
Any questions, comments or questions, please direct them to Dana Galloway, mailto:magical1@bellsouth.net
